FCP X 10.3 UI Changes

Final Cut Pro X 10.3 was released in October and it brought about a whole bunch of changes to the UI.

Including moving a few buttons around. Many people have commented on this (and I mean many people), and it seems that it’s getting increasingly difficult for the general population to actually use a thing called Google, or better yet, actually look for things using their eyes. I know, heaven forbid we’d ever use those.

So I decided to write a blog to finally cover the main changes in UI (the ones that people are actually whining about that is).

1. Zoom Bar for Timeline and Browser

This one is number one because I keep seeing it pop up on my Facebook feed about every 2-3 days, and I really am just getting sick of it at this point, so here is where it’s been moved to on the browser and timeline.

I’ve even drawn on them to make it easier for you.

Because of course, moving the button from the bottom to the middle is such a hard to reach place.

2. Titles & Generators

Number two on the list is where they’ve moved the titles and generators tabs.

Seen as they’re deemed as content. They now live next to the Libraries browser

3. Background Tasks

Another one I hear and see. There you go. It’s been moved to the top left.

There we go. Now was that difficult?

People who run Facebook pages, please stick this somewhere permanently so I don’t have to see another post from people who can’t be bothered to look.

Read my article on FCP.co

Hey guys! I’ve written a little article on a workflow that was used on a feature shoot in September. Talking about how to get FCPX to understand web proxies for remote editing.

Free Final Cut Pro X Library Template!

Title says it all really!

This is a Final Cut Pro X Library template I use constantly for my edits on short, commercial and feature work.

Feel free to download it here

It includes already labelled and pre-established events, smart and keyword collections, as well as a dedicated event to housing a Roles setup. Compound clips which just have small, bite sized generators and audio clips inside them with roles assigned so when the Library opens, they launch into FCPX.

Feel free to use this template as much as you want! Let me know what you use for your own projects, always keen on seeing how other people organise their work!

Final Cut Pro X Quick Tip – Audio Fade Handle Effect Preset

Ever wanted to quickly add audio crossfades to clips in Final Cut Pro X? It’s a little thing which still needs some tweaking, however, I came across a cool little trick by accident which allows you to add a quick crossfade to audio clips, and once it’s set up, you can use it on any project, whenever! Let me show you how…  Continue reading

Custom Post Production Workflow Folders

I use folders a lot for organisation in my work-flow, having a structure I go by for every project to keep everything consistent and conventional. With this, I made some colourful icons for the folders I use most often and I thought I’d share them with the world. If you want to use these folders in your work flow then by all means go ahead!

Tweet me @SWDoctor if you’re using them in your next project. I’d love to see!

An Obligatory Introduction

Greetings all!

This is an official welcome to my blog site, where i’ll be here every now and then, ranting and raving about things I find on the internet, shorts films, feature films and so on.

I’ll also be posting information regarding projects I will be taking part in the future (the ones I can talk about at least!), being as I am quite into the media industry.

And that’s about it for this blog, I’ll try and post frequently, but don’t hold your breath!
